I'm a newly-arrived 37 y/o male visiting researcher seeking a furnished studio or own room in shared house/apartment from mid-September until July 2010, possibly longer. I have no car, so convenience to campus (within, say, 2 miles) or a few blocks from transit, e.g. 22 bus stop, Marguerite, or Caltrain station not too far away (e.g. San Antonio, Mountain View) is essential. I'll pay a fair market rent up to $1100 pm for the right place.

I'm not a clean-freak, but I've seen a couple of places that were pretty awful, so, if sharing, I'd expect communal areas (kitchen, bathroom, living room) to be kept clean (basic communal living ??????leave it as you found it?????? and ??????everyone cleans up after themselves?????? principles) and available (e.g. no people sleeping in what should be the living room on an ongoing basis).

I'm highly sociable, friendly, and easy-going, but need my own space sometimes too, and respect that need in others. I like to go out for a few beers, meet new people, and chat about nothing in particular. If sharing, my ideal house/flat-mates are pretty similar, neither dour nor uptight nor unctuous. I don't want to live in a total party-house, nor in a Trappist monastery, I'd like a happy medium with a bit of give and take. Other than that, I don't care about any characteristic (age, gender, orientation) of my house/flat-mates ??????? the only real requirements are mutual respect and not being a prize pain in the ass?????? I'll return the favor :o)
